The new public library building in Girona is a 48m x 48m square. A connection with the exterior is established through its patios, although the façade has a series of transparent areas that allow visual communication with the surroundings.
In the library, natural light takes the leading role. The white U-Glass façades fills the building with indirect light, perfect for reading. At the same time, natural light comes in through the interior patios. At night, the library becomes a light box, an urban lamp.
The horizontal structure of the building consists of reinforced concrete slabs. The vertical structure is based on two main bands of concrete walls, placed in vertical communication cores areas, and four line of composite steel and concrete pillars of varying dimensions.
